Although it probably should have quietly gone away years ago, Scary Movie 5 is indeed happening. The horror spoof franchise has lost a lot of its luster over the years, and with Anna Faris not returning to star, its also lost its biggest draw. Ashley Tisdale recently came aboard to replace her, with the promise that other leads were soon to follow.
Variety reports that Erica Ash(MadTV) is set to join the film, and I think her signing all but confirms we won't be seeing franchise co-star Regina Hall returning except maybe in a cameo. Ash will play a friend and rival dancer to Tisdale's character. Why is dancing even a part of the equation? Because Black Swan is going to be one of the film's that will be parodied, along with 127 Hours, Paranormal Activity, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Maybe they can get Dave Franco to spoof his own brother? This will be Ash's first major film role, and I'm guessing her gift for doing impressions(her Michelle Obama is kinda funny) will come in handy.
Filming on Scary Movie 5 begins this summer with Malcolm Lee directing. Look for it to hit theaters next year on January 11th.
