Michael Goldenberg to pen 'Wonder Woman' script for Warner Brothers
I made a mistake in last night's story about Warner Brothers hiring Will Beall to write their big screen Justice League movie. In it, I glossed over Variety's blurb about Green Lantern scribe, Michael Goldenberg, being hired to write a Wonder Woman script. The reason is that Goldenberg had previously been brought back to work on the Green Lantern sequel, and I just got my wires crossed. Goldenberg's hiring is a new thing, and signals that the studio is looking to get the female arm of their superhero trinity into gear.
We don't really know much else at this point. In 2010, when the first Man of Steel rumors were starting to emerge, there were reports of a film being planned for 2013 with David Goyer(Batman Begins) involved in some capacity. That didn't happen, so we're probably looking at least two or three years down the line.
For all of Wonder Woman's popularity, she is a character that has had a hard time maintaining a foothold both in the comic book world and on TV. Her comic is a constant low seller, with creators taking wildly different approaches to the powerhouse Amazonian princess. She's really best known at this point for the portrayal by Lynda Carter in the 1970s TV series, but the recent relaunch with Adrianne Palicki died right out of the gate.
Nicolas Winding Refn(Drive) has long held a desire to direct a Wonder Woman movie, and since he's in the good graces of Warner Brothers right now(he's doing the Logan's Run remake for them), he might be the best bet for it. If that happens, expect to see Christina Hendricks manning the invisible jet.
