Samuel L. Jackson joins the 'Robocop' remake

While the announcement of MGM's upcoming Robocop remake has been met with mixed emotions, it's hard to deny that they're putting together a remarkable cast of young talent and seasoned vets to make this a film that can stand on its own two feet. With Gary Oldman recently signing on to play the man who created the cyborg officer of the law, and rising star Joel Kinnaman(Lola Versus) in the title role, a guy who knows a thing or two about popular franchises is coming aboard.

Samuel L. Jackson is the latest to join the film, jumping from his latest performance as the eyepatched super spy Nick Fury in The Avengers. He'll play Pat Novak, described as a "charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world."  Jackson might make a lot of crap movies, but he's one of the most popular and distinctive personalities in Hollywood, and should fit right in. Certainly the role sounds like classic Jackson, and I can imagine him blustering in a TV boardroom or something at some point. "I'm sick of this muthafu**kin' Robocop in this muthafu**kin' city"!

Jose Padilha(Elite Squad) will direct when Robocop begins production this summer for a hopeful August 9th 2013 release.
