It was pretty awesome when we learned that The Wire stand out, Michael K. Williams, would be playing the late Ol' Dirty Bastard in the upcoming biopic, Dirty White Boy. It was inspired casting to say the least, although expecting anybody to match ODB's large personality is probably expecting a lot. In fact, the entire Wu-Tang Clan is made up of larger than life figures in the hip hop game, and finding anybody to try and play them would definitely set the film back in a major way. Just look at all the problems Antoine Fuqua has continued to have trying to cast his Tupac biopic.
Fortunately, casting up the film may have just gotten a whole lot easier. Talking to the New York Daily News, Williams seemed to suggest that the legendary rap crew will be appearing as themselves, stating that producers “have no desire to cast any actors as the Wu-Tang.”, and that they needed "all hands on deck". Considering you simply can't have a movie about ODB without the Wu-Tang Clan being in it, the logical assumption is that they'll be there as themselves. That means expect Gza, Method Man, Rza, Raekwon, and all the other members nobody cares about(lookin' at you, U-God!) turning up. Nothing has been confirmed yet, so we'll see if all the schedules can be worked out. I'm sure they'll all do whatever is necessary to help honor their fallen homie. That is...assuming they all support the movie. They do, right?
Joaquin Baca-Asay will make his directorial debut with the Brent Hoff scripted pic, which tells the story of Jarred Weisfeld, who went from VH1 intern to managing Ol' Dirty Bastard's career up to his untimely death.
