'Kick-Ass 2' gets release date; plus two more join the cast

The B.S. is long behind us, and now Kick-Ass 2 is progressing along at a rapid clip with production beginning next month. With Matthew Vaughn back to write the script, Jeff Wadlow(Cry_Wolf) has come on board to direct, and now the film has landed a June 28th 2013 release date, right in the heart of the summer blockbuster season. That puts it up against The Internship, the workplace comedy with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, and also White House Down with Channing Tatum. Tough weekend.

While the principle cast is set to return, there have been some new additions and one change to the supporting players. John Leguizamo and Donald Faison make up two of the new faces, and now they'll be joined by Robert Emms(Mirror Mirror). He will take on the role of Insect Man,  a cop turned superhero and a part of Justice Forever, a team of street heroes who help Kick-Ass(Aaron Johnson) and Hit-Girl(Chloe Moretz) battle the Red Mist(Christopher Mintz-Plasse).

Also joining the cast is Morris Chestnut(Boyz in the Hood), who will be taking over for Omari Hardwick in the role of Marcus, Hit-Girl's guardian. It's kind of a big day for Chestnut, who has also joined The Hive, the Brad Anderson-directed thriller starring Halle Berry, Abigail Breslin, and David Otunga. [Deadline]
