Is it possible we could be looking at a new horror film to dethrone Paranormal Activity, much the same way it took down Saw a few years ago? Scott Derrickson's Sinister certainly seems to be riding a wave of positive buzz, and I think a large part of the reason is that it appears to be a no frills fright fest, rather than relying on gimmicks. In keeping with that "scares first" approach, a new red band trailer has emerged which is by far the best one yet.
Nary a word is uttered in this new trailer, which is a large part of the reason why it's so terrifying. It's all mood and atmosphere, and as he proved with The Exorcism of Emily Rose, these are things Derrickson has a firm grasp over. Ethan Hawke stars as a true crime novelist who makes the classic horror mistake of moving his family into a new home with a murderous history. Uncovering a box of video tapes showing numerous other families that had been killed there, his investigation reveals the presence of a dangerous supernatural entity.
Sinister opens in theaters on October 12th, just in time for Halloween. Check out the trailer below....
