New photos from 'The Lone Ranger' with Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer

After footage emerged at Comic-Con for The Lone Ranger, the expectation was that we'd start seeing more from the film, but instead we've seen considerably less. Part of the reason may be the numerous delays caused by weather problems, and reports of another out-of-control budget by director Gore Verbinski. But now all that stuff is in the rear view mirror as filming is completed, and we're getting a batch of new photos of Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer as the iconic Old West duo.

Judging by these shots, Verbinski's attention to detail, another reason for the constant overruns and delays, appears to have paid off as the film looks epic and gorgeous, you can practically sniff the dust while the horses scatter in the one image. Of course we also get plenty of Depp, who in the latest USA Today story says is nothing like his Jack Sparrow character from Pirates of the Caribbean. Based on what I've seen, that's not wholly true except that Tonto is a bit more grim and violent. It's still another in a long line of flashy, eccentric roles for the actor.

The Lone Ranger has lost a lot of the steam it had back when filming first began, but it'll take its place as one of the summer blockbusters to watch for when it opens on July 3rd 2013.....
