Pixar planning mystery project with 'Safety Not Guaranteed' writer Derek Connolly
Turns out Safety Not Guaranteed, the little sci-fi/rom-com from this past summer, has turned out to be quite the breeding ground for some of Hollywood's most sought after talent. Director Colin Trevorrow was rumored for the upcoming Star Wars gig, until it was confirmed that he and writer Derek Connolly were actually working on a Flight of the Navigator remake for Disney. Now Connolly has found himself attached to another high-profile job that puts him firmly in the Pixar camp.
Variety reports Connolly is writing a top secret mystery project for Pixar, to be directed by Teddy Newton, the guy behind the experimental and very cool short-film Day and Night. Plot details are few, but Connolly was instructed "not to dumb it down or treat animation like it's for kids. " Sounds like Pixar is going big and ambitious again after a few years of dabbling in far too many sequels.
Connolly has yet another project brewing for Disney, a film titled Hank which we knew nothing about. Speaking of Disney and their animation wing, Wreck-It Ralph co-writer Jennifer Lee has just joined Chris Buck as co-director of Frozen, their adaptation of The Snow Queen. Frozen is expected to hit theaters on November 27th 2013.
