Peter Jackson hopes to film 'The Adventures of Tintin' sequel next year for 2015 release
The promise of two filmmaking juggernauts like Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson teaming up on The Adventures of Tintin had a lot of people expecting it to be a big hit last year. Almost as soon as it opened we were hearing talk of a sequel, which would have Jackson directing while Spielberg slipped into the producer's chair. On our shores, the film turned out to be a dud, flying in and out of theaters at a rapid clip, and so all that sequel chatter died down. But as one might expect for an adaptation of Belgian artist Herge's popular character, it proved to be a huge hit overseas, amassing nearly $400M when all was said and done.
And so the sequel buzz has picked up again, and Jackson talked about it briefly while doing press rounds for The Hobbit. The film is still very much a go, and Jackson has hopes of filming the performance capture some time next year for a potential 2015 release. That would make for one heck of a busy year, as Jackson has about eight additional weeks of shooting on The Hobbit: There and Back Again that wasn't on his schedule before.
The script will be written by Anthony Horowitz, and at last report 'The Calculus Affair' was the Tintin story to be adapted. We've heard different things on that front, and I wouldn't be surprised if they just combine a number of Herge's works. So assuming Jackson has the energy for it, we should see The Adventures of Tintin 2 in 2015. [BleedingCool]
