"Proof can be a powerful weapon." That's what the trailer and one-sheet for Allen Hughes' Broken City taught us, and in the newly released clip we find out exactly why. Russell Crowe stars as Nicholas Hostetler, the mayor of New York City, with Mark Wahlberg as Billy Taggert, an ex-cop in search of redemption. Hired to investigate the alleged affair by the mayor's wife(Catherine Zeta-Jones), Taggert discovers a much larger conspiracy that leads right to the mayor's doorstep.
The mayor doesn't seem too concerned about it in this clip, in fact he seems more than ready to handle Taggert's accusations by drawing on his political power and the cop's own checkered past. It's a thrilling scene, and ends on a perfect note with Crowe's menacing "I own you". I'm getting a serious film noir vibe off of this one, and hope Hughes can deliver in his first feature directing gig away from his brother.
Broken City opens on January 18th.
