New 'Terminator' movie lands 'Drive Angry' and 'Shutter Island' writers

Another step forward has been taken in bringing The Terminator back to the big screen. There has been a lot of talk, stretching back years, but very little has actually been done, especially since Justin Lin(Fast Five) dropped out. But last month we saw some legit progress when super-producer Megan Ellison brought on her brother David to help shepherd the franchise, and now we see their work starting to play out.

Deadline reports that Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier will pen the script for the new film, but don't expect any details just yet. Kalogridis recently wrote the excellent script for Shutter Island, while Lussier gave us the Nicolas Cage action vehicle Drive Angry. It's worth noting that Kalogridis also exec-produced James Cameron's Avatar, so she's now got ties to his two most popular franchises. Maybe he can be lured back into the fold?

The two writers are also working on an original sci-fi project dreamed up by Ellison's production company, so clearly a lot of confidence is being heaped on these two. Can they possibly bring the Terminator franchise back after Terminator Salvation nearly destroyed it?
