David O. Russell. Christian Bale. Bradley Cooper. Jeremy Renner. Amy Adams. Louis C.K. And now Jennifer Lawrence. If you're not hyped for that movie without knowing a lick about it, then you may be at the wrong site.
Deadline reports that Lawrence has rejoined her Silver Linings Playbook duo of Russell and Cooper for the untitled Abscam thriller, formerly known as American Bullshit. This will be the third film Lawrence and Cooper have done together, as they have Susanne Bier's Depression-era film Serena all wrapped and ready for later this year.
Co-written by Eric Warren Singer (The International) and Russell, the film details the 1980s Abscam sting operation, in which the FBI forced a con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner (Adams) to help root out political corruption. Cooper plays the reckless federal agent running the operation, with Renner as the popular New Jersey state assemblyman caught up in the scandal. Lawrence will play Bale's wife, which means we may not see her on screen with Cooper at all.
While it's obviously early, is there any way this isn't already an Oscar contender for next year?
