Sam Mendes close to directing next James Bond film; two-part plans scrapped
These James Bond movies take a good little chunk of time to make, which is why it's good we're hearing movement on the 24th film now. Last fall, we learned that screenwriter John Logan would be back and tackling the script solo, developed in part by Skyfall director Sam Mendes, with rumors suggesting it would be the first of a two-part storyline shot back-to-back. Daniel Craig shot that talk down, and it appears he was telling the truth.
Baz Bamigboye says the next two films will be stand-alone, with Logan having prepared a pair of treatments for the next one. Maybe that's where the confusion came in? Or maybe there never were any plans to make it a two-parter? Either way, it's looking more likely that Sam Mendes will return, with Bamigboye estimating it to be about 75 percent likely.
I think it's an absolute must to bring Mendes back considering the excellent job he did on Skyfall, even if it means waiting a bit longer. The hope was to have Bond 24 done possibly by the end of next year, but Mendes has a couple of stage projects to complete. They'll likely push a start date into early 2014 at the soonest, and I doubt Mendes is going to rush things. There's also Craig's schedule to factor in.
