Malin Akerman and Taissa Farmiga are 'The Final Girls'

It's been a few years since anything has been heard about the horror comedy, The Final Girls. The film had a pretty sweet concept harkening back to '80s slasher films, and a director in A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas' Todd Strauss-Schulson. The project sort of vanished after that, but now it's back on with two lead actresses and Sony Pictures as a distributor.

Screen Daily reports Malin Akerman and Taissa Farmiga will star in The Final Girls, based on a Mark Fortin and Josh Miller script. Farmiga will play the grieving daughter of a 1980s "scream queen", only to be magically spirited into her mother's most famous horror film. Reunited, they must fend of the film's maniacal slasher before she can return to a normal life.

Akerman and Farmiga have been spending a lot of time on the small screen these days. Akerman stars on the ABC sitcom, Trophy Wife, while Farmiga appears on American Horror Story: Coven. Filming on The Final Girls begins in April.
