New Trailer for 'Locke' Puts Tom Hardy in the Driver's Seat

Steven Knight's thriller Locke takes place in only one location: behind the wheel of a car. It features only one character on screen; a man whose personal and professional world is crumbling around him due to a mistake he made. Movies set entirely in a moving car aren't unheard of (we saw a couple that came close last year in Vehicle 19 and Getaway, both awful), but keeping them interesting is the key. So it's fortunate that Knight has Tom Hardy as his leading man.

A new domestic trailer for Locke has been released, giving just a small glimpse at certainly Hardy's most unique performance, but also his most nuanced. His dominating charisma muted but still undeniable, he commands the screen in a performance that requires him to shift emotions as quickly as he shifts gears, reacting to phone calls voiced by Olivia Colman, Ruth Wilson, Tom Holland and more.

I saw it at Sundance and thought Hardy's performance overcame some of the plot's dry spells, but it's an interesting experiment that mostly pays off. Locke hits theaters on April 25th.
