Amy Adams Joins Denis Villeneuve for 'The Story of Your Life'
Making the move to big Hollywood features with Prisoners and Enemy, Denis Villeneuve stepped up his game with those brooding thrillers and gained the attention of A-list stars Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. And it appears his hard work continues to pay off as he's just landed Amy Adams for his next film, The Story of Your Life.
Deadline reports Adams is in talks to board the adaptation of Ted Chiang's sci-fi short story, penned by Eric Heisserer, responsible for The Thing remake nobody liked. But there's greater potential here as the story presents a unique take on your typical "aliens come to Earth" storyline. Adams will play an expert linguist hired by the military after alien crafts land on Earth, to discern whether they come in peace or are a threat to humanity. As she learns to communicate with them, she begins experiencing flashbacks that may unlock the greater mystery surrounding their arrival.
Adams is just coming off playing Lois Lane in Man of Steel, which also follows an extraterrestrial's arrival on the planet. Otherwise, this is a turn in a different direction for her and Villeneuve, who continues to shift genres with ease.
