Kevin Kline Likes Them Young as Errol Flynn in 'The Last of Robin Hood' Trailer

Kevin Kline has long been one of the most versatile actors around, capable of playing Cole Porter one film and Ulysses S. Grant the next. But he's always been most comfortable when given a chance to be a swashbuckling ham as in when he played Douglas Fairbanks in Chaplin, and now he gets to do it again as the great Errol Flynn in The Last or Robin Hood.

A new trailer for the film plays up the glitz and glam of Flynn's Hollywood career, one that saw him as one of the era's biggest celebrities, which meant his fall from grace was all the harsher. This isn't necessarily a story about Flynn, though, as it largely centers on Beverly Aadland (Dakota Fanning), an underaged actress Flynn had a romantic relationship with. Basically he did this with the promise of building her into a star, and the girl's mother (Susan Sarandon) feigned ignorance of the situation, but the result was a scandal that destroyed Flynn's professional life.

I had a chance to see the film at at Filmfest DC and was not impressed, finding it to be a woefully shallow look whether you were interested in Flynn or Aadland. Co-directed by Wash West and Richard Glatzer, The Last or Robin Hood opens August 29th.
