Sylvester Stallone Gearing Up for Fifth 'Rambo' Movie

The last time there was talk of another Rambo project it was when a television series was being developed, one that would see someone other than Sylvester Stallone take on the iconic character. That was nearly a year ago and with no movement at all on it, it looks like plans are again moving forward on a fifth Rambo movie.

Splendid Film dropped the news earlier today they've acquired the rights to Rambo V, which Stallone will write the script for as well as star in, presumably for the last time but you never know. Here's a translation of the German company's statement:

With 'Rambo V' Sylvester Stallone returns in his iconic role. This time he goes up against a Mexican cartel. Stallone, who has also written the screenplay, describes the new Rambo as his version of 'No Country for Old Men.' Like the last film, 'Rambo V' is produced by Avi Lerner ("The Expendables 1-3").

This would be Stallone's return to the character after 2008's Rambo, which at the time seemed like a fitting end for the franchise. But when it cleared over $100M worldwide and was relatively inexpensive, that opened up the door for at least one more. And we've heard numerous ideas for what the story could be about, including Stallone talking about it as a "passing the torch" film At other times Stallone has shot down the idea of doing more so who knows what his motivation will be like a few months from now. Comparing this upcoming project to the Coen Brothers' Best Picture-winner is a good way to guarantee a lot of attention, so clearly the intention is there at this moment to send Rambo into battle one last time.
