Paul Greengrass to Direct CIA Thriller 'Agent Storm'
Much of the recent talk surrounding Paul Greengrass has been whether he'd return to the Bourne franchise alongside Matt Damon. That doesn't seem likely to happen, and while Greengrass continues to try and develop MLK drama Memphis, and has eyed an adaptation of David Ignatius' cyber-thriller The Director, he's attached to another film that will go deep into the espionage world.
Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to Agent Storm: My Life Inside Al Qaeda, for Greengrass to develop and direct. He'll reteam with his Captain Phillips producer Scott Rudin on the project which "follows a former Islamic radical (Storm) as he became a double agent for the CIA and British and Danish intelligence." Storm was crucial to the CIA locating Al Qaeda leader Anwar al-Awlaki, who was subsequently killed in a drone attack.
Hot button issue full of spies and governmental intrigue? Sounds like something right in Greengrass' wheelhouse. No word on when this would roll but with Memphis still on the back burner this could be next for him. [Deadline]
