With production on HBO's second season of True Detective inching closer, some of the rumors we've been hearing about the cast should start to be proven true one way or another. Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Vince Vaughn have been in the running for the three male leads, with Nic Pizzolatto's story said to take place in three different cities in California following some shady land deals. Rachel McAdams, Elisabeth Moss, Brit Marling, and many others have been targeted for the female lead of a troubled Monterey sheriff. Now we're finally getting a confirmation straight from the horse's mouth as Farrell told The Sunday World he's definitely in, while offering up some brief production details.
Farrell: “I’m doing the second series. I’m so excited.”
He then went on to confirm the Chinatown-esque story would be shooting in Los Angeles and how long they'll be in production for, although he failed to reveal who would be directing those episodes. Justin Lin (Fast Five) is one of the directors expected to shoot at least a few episodes...
Farrell: “I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to
shoot. I know very little about it, but we’re shooting in the environs
of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see
the kids.”
Farrell will likely be taking on the role of Ray Velcaro, “who has been damaged by years of trauma in both his personal and professional lives.”
