Ewan McGregor the Next Rumored for Marvel's 'Doctor Strange'

Ever since Joaquin Phoenix pulled his name out of the running for Marvel's Doctor Strange, there hasn't been much word on who else may be up for it. Presumably the search has begun again from scratch because finally a new name is out there now, and it's someone who hasn't been mentioned before but has a lot of franchise experience.

According to Badass Digest's rumor, Ewan McGregor is being looked at for the film, with the actor reportedly preparing for the part by doing his research on the comics. So that's not really saying much at all, and given the way prior negotiations have gone it's way too early to assume anything. Marvel will be looking to lock him down for one of their (in)famous long-term deals and not every actor is up for that. Plus, McGregor may want to hold out in case he's asked back to play Obi-Wan in a future Star Wars film or something.

Scott Derrickson is lined up to direct Doctor Strange for a possible 2016 release.
