So is this a case of a husband and wife swapping movie sequels? Javier Bardem stars in Skyfall, then Penelope Cruz is rumored for Bond 24. She stars in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and now he's in talks to play the villain in the next film, which is gearing up faster than expected.
According to The Wrap, Bardem is in early talks to swash buckles with Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales. Before producers sought out Bardem they apparently went after Christoph Waltz, himself no stranger to playing bad guys, but for whatever reason those talks are now over.
And production is moving quickly now with co-directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) beginning pre-production next month for shooting on the reported $200M film to start in February. Yeah, you read that right, $200M. Remember when Disney was all concerned about costs? Forget about it now. Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is expected to open on July 7th 2017.
