Judging by the poor box office receipts most people didn't bother to check out Ramin Baharani's film At Any Price last year. And despite critical acclaim, few had the opportunity to see Adam Wingard's thriller, The Guest. The connection between both of those movies is the sterling performance by Maika Monroe, an actress who at only 21 years old already seems to have mastered her craft. Any film she's a part of is worth keeping an eye on, and that includes the buzzed-about horror It Follows, which has just debuted the first trailer.
An award winner at Fantastic Fest, It Follows is directed by David Robert Michell and co-stars Keir Gilchrist (It's Kind of a Funny Story) and Jake Weary, and the concept is simple but kind of amazing. Monroe plays 19-year-old Jay, who becomes haunted by a menacing spirit after a sexual encounter. The only way to get rid of it is to sleep with somebody else and pass it along. There's a terrific sense of mood and atmosphere, so hopefully Radius will give it a stateside release soon. As of now it's only set to open in France next February.
