Gina Carano Joins 'Deadpool' Cast; Colossus Set to Appear

Since busting through into Hollywood with Steven Soderbergh's Haywire, MMA star Gina Carano has been keeping herself busy. She's already had a role in Fast 6; led her own film with In the Blood, and has a role in the Kickboxer remake on the way. But now she's ready to hit her first superhero movie, and probably hit a mutant or two in the face, by joining Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool.

Carano is set to play the mutant Morlock known as Angel Dust in the film. In the X-men comics, the Morlocks are a subterranean group of mutants too deformed or unstable to fit in normal society. Angel Dust debuted in the (terrible) 2002 Morlocks limited series, and has the ability to increase her adrenaline and thus her strength temporarily. How she possibly fits into a Deadpool story is beyond me as they don't really have a connection to the best of my knowledge.

Also, it looks like the X-men known as Colossus will be making an appearance in the film, although it's unclear how big his role will be. Colossus, aka Piotr Rasputin, has been played by Daniel Cudmore in the X-men movies, including X-men: Days of Future Past, and we recently learned he wouldn't be showing up in 2016's X-men: Apocalypse. Perhaps now we know why. That's assuming they ask Cudmore to play the role again, of course.

Before Carano takes on Deadpool, which opens February 12th 2015, she'll film Extraction, an action movie starring Bruce Willis. [THR]
