Plot Synopsis Revealed for 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales'

It took awhile, longer than Disney was hoping for, but production has finally kicked off on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film is being directed by Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning, moving up to the big time after directing the acclaimed indie Kon-Tiki a couple of years ago. Of course Johnny Depp will be back as Jack Sparrow since it is clearly the only role people will pay to see him in. And now with filming underway, Disney has released the official synopsis for Sparrow's latest sea-faring adventure:

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him.  Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

Depp will be joined by Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites, Golshifteh Farahani, along with returning co-stars Geoffrey Rush, Stephen Graham, and Joshamee Gibbs. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales opens July 7th 2017.
