Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal Eye Tom Ford's 'Nocturnal Animals'

A long six years have passed since fashion guru Tom Ford made his mark on the movie world with A Single Man, a film that offered Colin Firth one of his most nuanced roles and rejuvenated the career of Nicholas Hoult. Firth was rightfully given an Oscar nomination for his performance, but Ford has sort of been overlooked for what he was able to accomplish with his first feature. While the wait for a follow-up has been way too long, that wait is now over and Ford is amassing quite a cast for his next film, Nocturnal Animals.

THR reports that Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal are close to locking down the lead roles while Joaquin Phoenix and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are also being sought. The film is an adaptation of Austin Wright's book, Tony and Susan, which follows a woman named Susan who is asked for her opinion of a book manuscript by the ex-husband she left 20 years earlier. The narrative then tracks two stories: the book titled "Nocturnal Animals" which tells of a man whose family vacation turns violent and deadly; and that of Susan herself as she is forced to confront a darkness from her past that may affect her future.

George Clooney and Grant Heslov's Smokehouse Pictures are behind this one, so there's real muscle making sure Ford's next project not only gets off the ground but could get an awards season release.
