'Avengers: Infinity War' will be Directed by the Russo Brothers

In a laundry list of bold moves, perhaps Marvel's biggest gamble was hiring Joe & Anthony Russo to direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The duo really only had a couple of notable feature film credits to their name, and certainly nothing of the scale the superhero film would require. But not only did they hit it out of the park, the duo have established themselves as Marvel's go-to guys. They're a couple of weeks away from tackling Captain America: Civil War, and for months have been rumored for the massive superhero throwdown, Avengers: Infinity War. Now those talks are no longer just speculation.

The news broke on Badass Digest and has been confirmed by The Wrap that the Russo Brothers will direct the two-part Avengers: Infinity War. Basically they're taking over as Marvel's centerpiece directors with Joss Whedon expected to bow out after Avengers: Age of Ultron.  The plan is for both movies to film back-to-back beginning in 2016, but there's a potential complication. It was only a few days ago the Russo's signed a first-look deal with Sony, part of which have them directing Channing Tatum's Ghostbusters spinoff in 2017. Conceivably they could do everything but it could be tight.

Avengers: Infinity War is expected to see Josh Brolin's Thanos take center stage for a massive battle against both new and old Avengers.  The first film is to open on May 4th 2018, followed by part two on May 3rd 2019.
