J.K. Simmons Dives into 'The Lake'; David Strathairn Tracks 'November Criminals'

Two of today's best and busiest character actors have landed new gigs alongside a bunch of youngsters.

Luc Besson has just landed Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons for his latest action flick, The Lake. Simmons, along with Charlie Bewley (Like Crazy) and Diarmaid Murtagh (Sons of Liberty) have joined star Sullivan Stapleton in the film which "focuses on a group of Navy SEALs who attempt to solve an age-old mystery involving a treasure underneath a lake in war-torn Serbia." Steven Quale (Into the Storm) is directing from a script Besson penned with The Equalizer's Richard Wenk. So brainy this thing won't be. Simmons recently won the Best Supporting Oscar for his performance in Whiplash, and will be seen next in this summer's Terminator Genisys. [Deadline]

Meanwhile Oscar nominee David Strathairn, who can be seen right now in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, has joined Chloe Moretz, Ansel Elgort, and Catherine Keener in November Criminals. Corey Hardrict (Battle: Los Angeles) is also joining the adaptation of Sam Munson's novel about two teens who venture into the Washington, DC underbelly to investigate the murder of a friend. Sacha Gervasi (Hitchcock) will direct with Steven Knight (Locke) having written the screenplay.
