A talented young musician has difficulty reaching his full potential in the face of a stern instructor. It may sound like the plot synopsis for Whiplash, but it's instead what one can expect from Boychoir, the new film from The Red Violin director, Francois Girard.
Starring Dustin Hoffman, Kathy Bates, Eddie Izzard, Debra Winger, Josh Lucas, Kevin McHale, and Garrett Wareing, the uplifting drama follows a rebellious kid with a rare singing talent who lands a spot at one of the most prestigious music academies in the country. Hoffman plays his demanding vocal teacher who must get the best out of his young charges in time for the National Championships. You probably can guess where this goes, and the newly-released trailer doesn't even try to suggest otherwise.
