Edgar Ramirez Finds 'Gold'; Gina Rodriguez Boards 'Deepwater Horizon'; 'The Huntsman' Casts Its Dwarves

Edgar Ramirez is going to help Matthew McConaughey find some Gold in Stephan Gaghan's new film. Produced by Paul Haggis (who once considered directing but thankfully won't) written by Patrick Massett and John Zinman, the film tells the true story of the 1993 scandal involving the Bre-X Mineral Corporation and the discovery of large amounts of gold in the Indonesian Jungle. McConaughey will play Bre-X founder David Walsh, while Ramirez is geologist Michael Acosta. Acosta may be a stand-in for Michael de Guzman, a geologist whose death really kicked off the investigation that exposed Bre-X's fraud. [Deadline]

Jane the Virgin's Golden Globe-winning star Gina Rodriguez has joined Mark Wahlberg in Deepwater Horizon, Peter Berg's film about the 2010 BP oil rig disaster. This was a highly sought after role with Rodriguez beating out Kristen Stewart to play navigator Andrea Fleytas, who was reprimanded for sending out a distress call to the Coast Guard. The film had been eyed by director JC Chandor (All is Lost) until he dropped out due to creative differences. [TheWrap]

The dwarves are getting a new look in Snow White and the Huntsman spinoff/prequel, The Huntsman. Only Nick Frost is returning as the dwarf, Nion, and now he'll be joined by Rob Brydon (The Trip to Italy), Alexandra Roach (One Chance), and Sheridan Smith (Hysteria). Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron are reprising their roles from the first film, with Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain also on board.  Set to hit theaters on April 22nd 2016, The Huntsman is directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan from a script by Frank Darabont.
