First Trailer for 'Paper Towns' goes on a Miraculous Romantic Adventure
Did The Fault in Our Stars leave you bawling in the theater aisles last year? Even if it didn't, the YA tale of cancer-stricken lovers was a huge hit, and expanded author John Green's notoriety beyond his extremely loyal fanbase. It also made him Hollywood's new darling for teen romances, but his latest film Paper Towns is a twist on the formula in that it's mostly a mystery-comedy, not a genre known for attracting huge audiences.
Starring The Fault in Our Stars' Nat Wolff alongside Cara Delevingne, Paper Towns centers on Quentin, who has been in love with his neighbor Margo since they were kids. High school sees them climbing separate rungs of the social ladder, until she shows up at his house one night and takes him on a wild night of adventure before disappearing. Discovering she left clues behind for him to decipher, Quentin sets out to find her and perhaps learn the truth about their friendship.
Directed by Jake Schreier (the underrated Robot & Frank), the real power behind this film may be writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. Their screenplays for (500) Days of Summer, The Spectacular Now, and The Fault In Our Stars have really connected with the target audience (all three ended up on my "Best of the Year" lists), but Paper Towns is going to be a challenge. The film hits theaters on July 24th.
