When Ryan Reynolds said recently that his Deadpool film would have a slavish devotion to the character, he wasn't kidding. The two characters revealed today as part of the film go back to Deadpool's earliest comic appearances, and it gives this loyal fan hope that a very specific storyline is the source material.
Co-stars TJ and Morena Baccarin revealed their Deadpool roles, and both are key figures in "The Circle Chase" limited series, in my opinion the best Deadpool story ever written. Miller has confirmed he will play Weasel, Deadpool's weapons guy and oft-humiliated best bud. Baccarin's role is more interesting as she'll play Vanessa Carlyle aka Copycat. She was introduced in the pages of New Mutants #98, but her real identity wasn't shown for many months as the shapeshifting mutant was disguised as Domino, a member of Cable's X-Force. As former lovers, Deadpool and Copycat's relationship is...complicated. They've saved each other's life more than once, but have tried to kill one another on multiple occasions.
Directed by Tim Miller with Ed Skrein and Gina Carano co-starring, Deadpool opens February 12th 2016.
