Daniel Bruhl Reveals His Role in 'Captain America: Civil War'
With filming on Captain America: Civil War set to begin today, some light is finally being shed on one of the big mysteries. Last fall Inglourious Basterds and Rush actor Daniel Bruhl joined the cast in a mystery role, which many guessed would be a villain. Given his Spanish-German heritage the speculation was that he would be playing one of the many German foes in Cap's "rogue's gallery". Now Bruhl has confirmed which one it will be, and it's a doozy.
Bruhl has confirmed to The Independent that he'll be playing Baron Helmut von Zemo, better known as just Baron Cemo, in the Captain America sequel. There are actually two Zemo's that have been part of the Marvel Universe, the father and the son, both maniacal villains in service to Nazi ideals. The younger Zemo has been a constant thorn in the side of Cap and the Avengers, at one point leading the Masters of Evil and inflicting one of the most severe (and crippling) defeats on the team. He later would come to lead the fake hero team known as The Thunderbolts under the guise of Citizen V, until his ploy was uncovered. Said Bruhl on the casting...
“I think I can tell you that without being thrown into Marvel prison. For the first few days I’ll walk around like a little boy, just amazed by the megalomania of it. It’s such a huge project. We could do 20 films with the budget.”
Zemo is the kind of villain who should be sticking around awhile, but it all depends on the future of Captain America, doesn't it? Bruhl can be seen in theaters now in Woman in Gold. Captain America: Civil War opens May 6th 2016.
