Doug Liman Exits 'Splinter Cell', 'Torque' Director May Replace Him

With Doug Liman directing and Tom Hardy set to star, it was beginning to look as if Splinter Cell would be the first really good video game movie in a long time. Maybe ever. Now that's been thrown into jeopardy as Liman has apparently dropped out, with The Tracking Board reporting that his replacement has already been found.

If the reports are true, Joseph Kahn, who recently made a splash with his Power/Rangers short film, is the choice to replace Liman. Kahn is also a music video director but has a couple of notable features under his belt. He directed the awful 2004 motorcycle flick, Torque, which tried to be a two-wheeled version of Fast and the Furious; and in 2011 he directed the underrated teen horror-comedy Detention which wasn't shy about making fun of Torque

Hardy is still on board to play lethal covert operative, Sam Fisher, the protagonist of the best-selling franchise.
