New Shortlist of Spider-Man Frontrunners Emerges

Marvel's Captain America: Civil War is filming in Atlanta right now, and there's just one little problem; they still don't have anyone to play Spider-Man. The wallcrawler is to make his debut in their cinematic universe in next year's film, before launching into a solo movie in 2017. While the most recent reports pegged Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game) as the frontrunner to win the Peter Parker role, actual screen tests happened today and he is far from alone.

According to THR, Butterfield is still one of the finalists along with Tom Holland (The Impossible), who was already considered a top contender. But there are four more in the mix now, including relative newcomer Judah Lewis (the upcoming Point Break remake), Matthew Lintz (Pixels), Charlie Plummer (Boardwalk Empire), and Red Band Society's Charlie Rowe. Rowe was previously up for the Cyclops role in X-Men: Apocalypse, so he seems like an actor studios are watching closely. All six actors attended the screen tests which were overseen by Marvel's Kevin Feige, producer Amy Pascal, and 'Civil War' directors Joe & Anthony Russo.

Expect a decision to be made very soon, like in the next day or two. Captain America: Civil War opens May 6th 2016.
