We've already had a lousy remake of The Thing, so what's it matter if we get another one for The Blob? A few months ago Simon West (The Expendables 2) was brought on to direct a remake (Rob Zombie had been interested for awhile) of the horror classic after years of sporadic development. And now the project has landed its first star with Samuel L. Jackson joining the cast.
Jackson, who can be seen as Nick Fury in Avengers: Age of Ultron and will star in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, will play "a biochemistry professor attempting to thwart the other-worldly predator discovered deep within the earth." So get ready for Jackson to rain fire and brimstone on the extraterrestrial blob of goo.
The original 1958 film starred Steve McQueen and spawned a remake in 1972. It was then remade in 1988 with Chuck Russell as director. [THR]
