A Christmas bow for Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight has been expected for awhile now, but Variety has now confirmed that to be the date. However, with Tarantino looking to present his film in glorious 70mm, and Weinstein working to get as many theaters ready for that as possible, the release is going to be a bit different than normal.
When the film opens on Christmas it will be the start of a two-week "roadshow" presenting the film in 70mm. After that, the film will open nationwide digitally on January 8th. What we still don't know are the exact dates and locations of the 70mm presentations, so keep an eye out for those. There should be enough exhibitors taking part that those who wish to see it as Tarantino intended won't have to make a long weekend out of the trip.
All the more reason to get excited for this holiday season. This is sure to be the kind of cinematic event we don't get too often anymore.
