Sony and Marvel can't Decide on Spider-Man Role, but it won't be Asa Butterfield

If Marvel and Sony keep haggling over their choice to play Spider-Man, we may see Captain America: Civil War wrap filming without the role being cast. This was supposed to be the week in which a decision would be made, but that hasn't happened and now we're learning there are some disagreements at the top of the chain. What's for certain, though, is that one of the frontrunners is now out of the running.

On the Meet the Movie Press podcast, The Wrap's Jeff Sneider says Asa Butterfield, who seemed to have the role all sewn up, is no longer in contention. He's been pretty chatty about the part lately and that may have something to do with it, or it could be that Marvel and Sony see something in the three remaining finalists. Those contenders would be Tom Holland (The Impossible), who was also seen as a top choice before, Matthew Lintz of this summer's Pixels, and Charlie Plummer of HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The issue is that Sony really wants Holland while Marvel is backing Plummer.

Holland is, at least in my opinion, the superior talent of the three, having proven himself on wide-scale films before. We'll see what happens, but a decision needs to be made soon so Spidey can debut in Cap's next movie.
