First Trailer and Poster for Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks' 'Bridge of Spies'
Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks have explored the ugliness of war numerous times, most notably in Saving Private Ryan, but also with HBO's Band of Brothers and The Pacific. They haven't collaborated on the big screen since 2004's The Terminal, which is probably the least of their projects together. But now they are back and in a war footing with the Cold War film, Bridge of Spies, based on true events.
Set in 1960 against the backdrop of U.S./Soviet nuclear tension, Hanks plays James Donovan, a Brooklyn lawyer who is given the near-impossible task of negotiating the release of a pilot who was shot down in the Soviet Union. The Coen brothers and Matt Charman wrote the screenplay, while the cast includes Eric Bana, Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan, Kevin Spacey, Billy Magnussen, Alan Alda (is he busy suddenly or what?), Ed Asner, and more. So not exactly the starriest of Spielberg's films, but that just means Hanks is going to be carry much of the weight on his shoulders.
Bridge of Spies hits theaters on October 16th.
