Jack Huston Exits 'The Crow' while Forest Whitaker comes Aboard
So what's the deal with Relativity's remake of The Crow? Is it possibly cursed? The years-long search to find a star for the film has included names like Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg, Luke Evans, Tom Hiddleston, and James McAvoy, with none sticking around longer than it takes to brew a pot of coffee. There were more than a few problems finding someone to direct the comic book adaptation, as well. But things seemed to be pushing forward with rising star Corin Hardy (The Hallow) directing and Jack Huston (American Hustle) on board to star, however those plans have now been scrapped.
According to Variety, Huston has had to depart the film due to scheduling conflicts. He does have a lot on his plate with Pride & Prejudice & Zombies plus a big-budget remake of Ben-Hur, but this means the search to replace him is now on. The studio is looking at Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Jack O'Connell (Unbroken) as possible contenders. Why should we believe anybody will stick around at this point?
Meanwhile, the surrounding cast continues to grow with the addition of Forest Whitaker. He's in talks to join Andrea Riseborough (Birdman) who is playing the villain, Top Dollar.
The Crow is in pre-production now so expect a new lead to be named soon. We'll see how long he lasts.
