Could Bryan Singer Take Over Fox's 'Fantastic Four' Franchise?
Despite what has been a troubled production on Josh Trank's Fantastic Four, and a general lack of buzz for the upcoming superhero film, 20th Century Fox is hopeful it will find the same level of success as Bryan Singer's X-Men franchise. Rumors have long persisted that an X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover could be in the works as part of a shared universe, possibly arriving in 2018. And one way Fox may take steps to make sure that happens could be to hand the reins over to Singer, who obviously has a proven track record.
A rumor over at This Is Infamous (judge accordingly) says Fox hopes to push ahead quickly on a Fantastic Four sequel, only with Singer spearheading the effort. He would be coming off of X-Men: Apocalypse, which many expect to be Singer's final movie in the mutant series. Singer would then move over to oversee all of Fox's superhero universe, directing the next Fantastic Four film as a lead-in to an eventual crossover with the X-Men.
The hope is that putting Singer and Kinberg in charge will give Fox's comic book films the bold, distinctive voice that Kevin Feige provides for Marvel. They certainly have the credentials to pull it off, but for now consider this a rumor. Fantastic Four arrives on August 7th.
