Dean Ambrose's WWE Studios Film 'Lockdown' is Part of '12 Rounds' Franchise
While WWE superstar Dean Ambrose has been going round after round World Champion Seth Rollins of late, he recently took some time off to star in the latest WWE Studios film, which we previously learned was titled Lockdown. But this isn't just another action flick Vince McMahon's favorite movie studio, it's actually a continuation of the 12 Rounds series, which began with 2009's film starring John Cena.
Officially titled 12 Rounds 3: Lockdown, the film seems to be a departure from the franchise's basic premise of a villain seeking revenge on the protagonist by making him complete twelve impossible tasks. Fail and someone close to him dies. Here's the synopsis for Ambrose's film, which makes it sound like a generic action thriller:
“Ambrose plays Shaw, a detective that returns to active duty after the death of his partner. When he uncovers evidence linking his fellow officers to a murder, they frame him for a homicide he didn’t commit. Trapped in his own precinct, Shaw will do whatever it takes to expose the dirty cops and clear his name. With twelve rounds in the clip and one shot at redemption, nothing will stand in Shaw’s way in this action-packed thriller.”
Is that a literal "twelve rounds in the clip"? Perhaps after the thousands of bullets fired by The Miz in The Marine 3: Homefront the ammunition budget has been exceeded over at WWE Studios?
While there is still no trailer, a poster for 12 Rounds 3: Lockdown has been released. The film is directed by Stephen Reynolds (Tomb Raider: Ascension) and co-stars Daniel Cudmore (Colossus in the X-Men movies), with a DVD and VOD release set for September 11th.
