Trailer for Deeply Moving Period Drama 'Brooklyn' Starring Saoirse Ronan

Sometimes a movie debuts at Sundance and it leaves the kind of impression that makes you say, "That's going to be an Oscar contender". This year that film was John Crowley's moving period drama, Brooklyn, which features another in a long line of incredible performances by Saoirse Ronan.  With the film all but assured to be an awards season player, and a fall release date for that to happen, the first trailer has been released so others can see what all the fuss has been about.

Based on Colm Toibin's book, the film is set in the 1950s and centers on a young Irish immigrant trying to make her way in America. It's a familiar setup, but the emotions are very real with my review calling it "intimate and romantic" and "deeply personal". Here's the full synopsis:

BROOKLYN tells the profoundly moving story of Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother’s home for the shores of New York City. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her past, and she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.

Also starring Domhnall Gleeson, Julie Walters, Emory Cohen, and Jim Broadbent, Brooklyn opens this November.
