*UPDATE* Ice Cube and His Son Not Involved with L.A. Riots Film

*UPDATE* Despite the earlier report, Ice Cube and his son O'Shea Jackson Jr. are not going to be involved with a movie based on the 1992 L.A. riots. A rep for the duo issued this statement: “Ice Cube and O’Shea Jackson Jr. have no plans to commit to this project at this time. Any speculations or rumors that suggest that they are confirmed are simply untrue." [Deadline]

Whatever one thinks about the hit N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, what can't be denied is the perfect casting of O'Shea Jackson Jr. to play his father, Ice Cube. And it looks like they may not be done collaborating on the big screen, as THR reports they're considering a film on the 1992 LA Riots, an event that was touched upon briefly in Straight Outta Compton.

Titled April 29, 1992, the film would feature a script by Sascha Penn (Power) and directed by South African helmer Donovan Marsh (Avenged).  Cube would be set to play an ex-criminal who who must save his son when a group of thugs raid his place of work in the hopes of stealing an expensive amount of platinum. Preumably all of this will take place against the backdrop of the riots, which were sparked by the acquittal of four LAPD police officers in the video taped beating of motorist Rodney King.

Filming is expected to begin in February but at this point Cube and his son aren't signed. There's another LA Riots film in the works that had Justin Lin (Fast Five) attached but nothing has been heard of that in a while.
