Lovely First Poster for Transgender Drama 'The Danish Girl' starring Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander

Eddie Redmayne underwent a startling physical transformation as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, earning the talented actor his first Oscar in the process. But that's nothing compared to how he will evolve in The Danish Girl, and the transgender drama is already being poised as a major awards contender.

A gorgeous new poster has been released for the film, which stars Redmayne alongside Alicia Vikander. Redmayne stars as Lili Elbe, a Danish artist who in the 1920s became one of the first recipients of sexual reassignment surgery. Elbe began as Einar Mogens Wegener, marrying another talented artist, Gerda Gottlieb (Vikander), until his transformation caused a fracturing of their relationship.

The film has been in the works for years with Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Charlize Theron, and more attached to the lead roles at different points. But when Tom Hooper came aboard to direct he brought along Redmayne, who he had worked with on Les Miserables. If there was a right time for this film to come out it's now, given the increased discussion and understanding of transgender people of late.

Also starring Ben Whishaw, Amber Heard and Matthias Schoenaerts, The Danish Girl opens November 27th.
