Robert Pattinson to Star in Claire Denis' Untitled Sci-Fi Film

Fans of art house movies, and just plain o' great movies in general, got a dose of good news in June when it was revealed that Claire Denis (White Material) would be making her English-language directorial debut. And not only that, but it would be a sci-fi movie, something she's never undertaken before. Well now there's more good news as the project has just landed its first star, and it's someone who guarantees it will get some attention.

Robert Pattinson will be the headliner for Denis' untitled sci-fi film, which she will co-write along with Nick Laird and award-winning author Zadie Smith. Whoa. There aren't any additional details beyond Pattinson playing an astronaut in a place "beyond the solar system in a ‘future that seems like the present."

Sounds confusing, but that's okay. It will be worth it just to see how Denis makes sense of it all. Production begins early next year, and maybe it will be ready in time for the fall festival season? [ScreenDaily]
