Better Watch Out, the Trailer for Holiday Horror 'Krampus' is Here
While a holiday horror-comedy may not seem like prime Comic-Con material, the trailer for Christmas slasher Krampus was a big hit in Hall H. What one the crowd over, besides the irreverent yuletide sense of humor, was the impressive creature effects from the folks at Weta (Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies), some of which are glimpsed in the newly-released trailer.
The film is directed by Michael Dougherty, who gave us the Halloween-themed horror Trick r Treat, and the story centers on a family who have totally forgotten what Christmas spirit is all about, causing the demonic Krampus to show up and slaughter them for being naughty. The film stars Adam Scott, Toni Collette, Emjay Anthony, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Stefania Lavie Owen and Krista Stadler. Here's the official synopsis:
When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers. All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.
Universal Pictures has smartly positioned Krampus close to the holidays by releasing it on December 4th.
