Daphne du Maurier's mystery novel My Cousin Rachel has already been adapted for the big screen in an Oscar nominated film led by Richard Burton and Olivia Mary de Havilland. But if you thought that would be enough and a remake wouldn't be in consideration, think again. Hyde Park on Hudson director Roger Michell will write and helm a modernized remake with Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin set to star.
The story remains essentially the same with Claflin playing Philip, a young orphan who believes his rich and beloved guardian Ambrose was murdered by his beautiful cousin, Rachel (Weisz), in order to claim his estate. As Philip plots revenge, his feelings are thrown into question when he falls in love with her. Was he wrong to suspect her as the killer? Or should he be concerned that she's targeting him next?
No word on when this will shoot but this is strong noir material with a superb cast being put together, so it's worth keeping a close watch on. [Variety]
