Put Down Your Phones and Watch the Trailer for 'The Angry Birds Movie'
Having never played even a moment of Angry Birds it's hard for me to relate to the phenomenon of the mobile app that has swept the world. Perhaps it's no longer the powerhouse it once was given the crowded field of games to be played on your smartphone, because recent reports are that the game's creator Rovio is in a financial downturn. So perhaps moving forward on an Angry Birds movie was premature, or maybe it will be such a hit that it saves the company's bacon. Either way, the first trailer has been released, and it's...well, an odd bird.
Scored by Michael Jackson's "Bad" for some reason, the trailer gives added personality to the game's familiar feathered characters. The look of the game has definitely been retained which should draw in a few fans, but the big score is the incredible voice consisting of Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage, Keegan-Michael Key, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Jillian Bell and more. Here's the official synopsis:
The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis, We're the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad in his first animated role since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride, This is the End, Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.
The Angry Birds Movie opens May 20th 2016.
