Ronda Rousey to Lead 'Road House' Remake In Patrick Swayze's Old Role
Road House is one of those iconic movies that epitomizes the '80s. First of all, it's Patrick friggin' Swayze, bare-chested and ripped, playing some kind of zen bouncer at a bar full of drunken, violent yahoos. The film is undeniably campy, but it's also an unquestioned cult classic in the minds of most people, and MGM has been keen on remaking it for a few years now. While the idea of that may drive Swayze fans crazy, one way of putting a positive spin on it is by changing things up a little, like casting Ronda Rousey in the lead role.
According to Variety, the UFC champ and baddest women on the planet is taking on a female version of Dalton, the role Swayze made famous in Road House. The last time this project underway it was to be directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) but it never got off the ground. Right now there's no director or screenwriter attached so this could still be a ways off. It'll be interesting to see who is written in to play Rousey's love interest, assuming there is one. Will it be a tough guy or a wimp she can save from catching a beat down? For those still upset about this, just no that Rousey reached out to Swayze's widow to make sure she was okay with this, a pretty cool move in my book because she didn't have to.
Rousey has a lot on her plate as Hollywood begins developing films specifically for her. Of course she's been openly campaigning for superhero film, Captain Marvel, and she's got an adaptation of her biopic My Fight/Your Fight developing, followed by Peter Berg's Mile 22 alongside Mark Wahlberg and Iko Uwais.
